The Floor Study

Before anything is built, I spend time with your team and see how the work really happens. You get a clear written plan and a quote, and it’s yours to keep whatever you decide.

Most software is chosen from a demo, a brochure or a friend’s recommendation. Usually it’s only after it has been paid for that anyone finds out whether it fits the way the team actually works. The Floor Study turns that around: first I learn how your business really runs, then we decide what, if anything, is worth building.

What happens

  1. 1

    A short call

You tell me what’s slowing you down. I tell you honestly whether a Floor Study makes sense, and if I’m not the right person, I’ll say so.

  2. 2

    Time on the floor

I spend time with the people who do the daily work, wherever it happens: the front desk, the site, the stores, the staffroom, the accounts table.

  3. 3

    Mapping how the work moves

Every tool, app, WhatsApp group and paper register in use. Where the same information is written more than once. Where time and money leak, and why.

  4. 4

    The written plan

What I’d fix first and why, what I’d leave alone because it already works, and a quote for everything after it.

What you get

  • A picture of how work and information move through your business today.
  • Where time and money leak, and why it usually happens.
  • What to fix first, and what to leave alone.
  • A plan in phases, starting with what hurts most.
  • A quote for the work after it, so you can decide calmly.

Who it’s for

  • Businesses where the daily work runs on WhatsApp, spreadsheets, paper registers and a few apps that don’t talk to each other.
  • Owners who are busy all day but still not sure what’s really going on.
  • Teams who have tried software before and ended up working around it.

It isn’t for you if you already know exactly what you want built. Then we can simply talk about that.

Yours to keep

The plan belongs to you whether or not we work together afterwards. It is written in plain language, so anyone on your team, or anyone you hire, can act on it.

Questions people ask

Is the Floor Study paid?

Yes. It is a short, paid piece of work. Paying for it means I can give your business proper time and an honest answer, instead of a sales pitch.

Do I have to build anything with you afterwards?

No. The written plan is yours to keep whatever you decide. Some people build with me, some use the plan with their own team, and some use it to choose the right ready-made software. All of those are good outcomes.

Will it disrupt my team?

No. I work alongside your people during a normal day. They don’t need to prepare anything or change how they work while I’m there. I’ll be the quiet person asking why things are done a certain way, which is usually a good question.

Can it be done remotely?

Yes, when possible. I prefer to be on site, because the details show up on the floor. For businesses outside India, much of it can be done remotely: video calls with your team, screen shares of the tools they use, and photos of the registers and forms. I’ll tell you before we start if a visit would make a real difference.

How long does it take?

It depends on the size of your business and how many places the work happens. I’ll tell you before we start.

How much does it cost?

Every business is different, so the Floor Study is quoted after a short call, once I know the size of your team and where the work happens.
